Association

Links are property of hypertext. Whether it is words or images, links allow us to click on something and go somewhere else. It is through these links that we "surf" the web, jumping from page to page, following whatever link happens to catch our eye at the time. What connects these links is nothing more than the association the writer and the reader make between the two pages of information. In other words, it is through the connection of the link that we attempt to associate the two different pages together. This can be an easy task when you are cruising through Yahoo! and following the links in its index. It makes sense that if a link says "Computers" and you click on it, you go to a page with information, and more links, about computers. But links can also be tricky in terms of why they are made, you then have to stretch more to make the association. For instance, I could say this link is going to take you to the Yahoo! main page.
