Space

Space on the Web is an interesting thing seeing as there is no there there. To say you are north of somewhere really has no meaning on the web, maybe up and down in relation to your position on the screen, but link to link, no. But, I would not go so far as to say there is no idea of space. Rather, I would posit that the web is a topology instead of a topography. Space is connoted by groupings of associated topics and links. So, a neighborhood is formed in the web via links and general groupings. In other words, areas get spaced by their association with each other. People can then go and visit these neighborhoods because they know what type of information is going to be located there. Space is not literal but figurative.
